Virtual Goods Sales – Insights from Wooga and Goodgame Studios
Game developers rarely share numbers about their revenues, sales or profits. You have cases of CEO’s trying to convince you of their sky high profits or CEO’s like wooga’s Jens Begemann whose company has so much momentum that he walks around with a huge smile stating that the company is not fully profitable at this stage. The attitude of game developers did not change but recently Wooga and Goodgame Studios released data with interesting numbers on their users’ virtual goods consumption:
“Monster World has been played by more than 20 million people from 231 nations since April 2010. A dedicated team of 15 launch an improved version of the game every week, with more than 56 iterated versions since the public launch. wooga is constantly seeking to serve the best gaming experience possible, and the 1.1 million daily players, each logging in more than 8 times every day, really encourage us. Remarkable: Monster World has its all time high in terms of monthly active Users today, one year after its first launch and it doesn’t stop growing. Since its launch, 594 unique, decorative items – from tree-houses and castles to pyramids and space satellites – have been invented and implemented by the creative team. Designed from the bottom up as a social game, a major portion of the Monster World gameplay is to play with your friends: Our user have oiled each other’s robots more than 1.6 billion times, have fed their hungry helpers 930 million times and collected 1 billion bags of gold in their friend’s gardens. Users in Monster World manufacture and sell goods. For example, users have produced more than 60 million pieces of candy in their candy factories, and crafted over 3.7 million spiky lollipops.” -Wooga
