Social gaming company RockYou wants to support the best independent talent in the social gaming industry with the formation of new third-party publishing unit, Studio Partners. Studio Partners is an open program that enables developers to expand the reach of their games through RockYou’s network, and to leverage RockYou’s advertising solutions, analytics tools, and broader marketing support. This new business unit is a natural progression following RockYou’s recent partnership with John Romero’s independent studio, Loot Drop. RockYou is funding and publishing two social game titles from Romero’s studio and the first game, Cloudforest Expedition, launches this summer. Through Studio Partners, the company says it will continue to support developers’ creative freedom while expanding and diversifying its own portfolio of engaging social games.
Josh Grant will head up the publishing unit as SVP and GM of Studio Partners. Formerly RockYou’s SVP of Strategy and Corporate Development, Grant has worked in the social gaming industry since its emergence, launching games and applications across an array of entertainment platforms, including Facebook, Valve’s Steam, iTunes, Android, Amazon’s Kindle, Verizon and AT&T. As the lead of Studio Partners, Grant will oversee RockYou’s efforts to discover top creative talent and integrate promising game titles into the RockYou network. “We’re inspired by the originality and imagination of social game developers around the world,” said Josh Grant, SVP and GM of Studio Partners. “Studio Partners brings quality games that might otherwise have limited reach, into the public eye for our community to enjoy,” said Jonathan Knight, RockYou’s SVP of Games. “We’re expanding our portfolio of games while helping creative developers to reach their full potential.”
