Social game developer RockYou has announced the acquisition of TirNua, a virtual community focused nature and environment. The acquisition is the next step in RockYou’s evolution and commitment to delivering entertaining and engaging games in the rapidly evolving social space. TirNua’s 3D engine technology and team will develop new titles as part of the RockYou games team in Redwood City. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

TirNua’s engine represents an evolution in social gaming: synchronous online play, advanced 3D characters, and crowd-sourced localization. The TirNua team strengthens RockYou’s product development and game design expertise and brings senior gaming leadership to the company. Greg Kearney, formerly President of TirNua, will take on the role of VP of Engineering at RockYou. “TirNua has built a fantastic team of engineers but the most satisfying thing is to see your technology in the hands of millions of players,” said Greg Kearney. “RockYou is an industry leader whose scale of users will allow us to reshape social gaming faster than we could do on our own.”
